Mr Potter'sblog, fall 1986

So today a little side step, a little break. Finding that picture of David from Fall 1986 was exciting, as was the collection of photos with it. So, here I am, fall of 1986, Bennington College, Bennington, VT, with a full rack of pots behind, and a full, very full FRO. I have curley hair, and when it gets long it gets wild, and you know, Robert Smith of the Cure and others were all doing the big hair thing......and here also you have me, 20 years later, same height, same weight, same hair (shorter, with gray) doing the same darned thing. (actually, I was physically a lazy slug in college, much more fit now)
My parents, and I, got good value in my over-priced college education, as I use it everyday. I was lucky, I went to the college I wanted to attend and studied what I wanted and later married who I wanted. Lucky boy.
There are other pictures for other days, and tomorrow, a special Saturday surprise!!!!

Actually, the fuzz top was rather high this morning, when I crawled out of bed. And I dreamt I was in high school math class.

I like it that I can count on you for an early morning read. You look like a mad scientist! Of course, I'm sure this was a hip look then...or was it?

I once dreamt in high school math class.

hair volume = wow

isn't that the very place that had been my studio until June of that very selfsame year? Right below the spiral staircase that led to the painting studios above??

man, this brings me back in time. i remembered you with lots of hair but i had forgotten just how much hair! but, then again, we all had a lot of hair back then. thanx for posting.

And Denis, some of us still have some of that hair, and maybe some of us.....?
Funny thing is, my hair really is up there again today, what with my general slovenliness and the static of the wooley hat I wore outside earlier, and the need for a haircut. Truth of the matter is, my old girlfriends are no doubt thinking 'hey, he isn't the fat ugly toad I figured he would be by now! How did I mess up and let him slip through my fingers? Oh yeah, that's right: bus boys at Chili's make more money than potters, and have better hours too....'
Alfredo: let's see, yeah, I had great studio space before in the corners by the windows, but somehow got plunked into the middle of the big room at the end of senior year. That was the far spiral staircase, up to the senior painting studios.
isn't it nice my lovely old college pals are still my friends? If Suki and David weighed in, we would have one heck of a little party today.

I bow before the volume your former hair. That's simply amazgins stuff, Gary.

Thanks, gordo, I worked at it. I am remembering now that this particular 'do featured a little rat tail going down the back. You could say 'what was he thinking?!' but my hair is really rather strikingly fuzzy today, so you might simply be speechless.
I will post MORE pics of this variety on other slow days.
Stay tuned, ya'll.

Ugh, I hated rat tails.

I was entering my "flat-top" phase in 86. I was only 17, though ... :-D

Bennington, VT.... so charming there. And not too, TOO far from where I grew up. I remember going there occasionally as a kid, although I never visited the college.

Gordo, you were a young pup. I was 20 then, 40 now. Hard to believe 20 years out of college, I mean, think of Rip Van Winkle--suddenly where did the years go?
The rat tail...why did that seem like such a good idea? I still want a certain tattoo, and this town is full of tattoo parlors, and the wife is still threatening (and I encourage it!) to dye her hair to match the house, purple, but even though we feel like kids, it is pathetic to look like a kid.
Susan, the college is 3-4 miles north of Bennington, in North Bennington and as my father said, it is 'a crazy school for rich girls'.
Heheh--next stop, GR with his huge MUSTACHE.

I took the tatoo plunge in September 2000 and had a nice maple leaf implanted just in time for the Olympics. The tatoo guy (artist?) was impressed with my patriotism.

Oh, BTW: they DO hurt. On the chest, anyway.

I want a red star with a blue M inside on my right bicep. My sister-in-law said 'why?' and I pointed to her sister, Mrs Potter'sblog. My mother teased me a few years back about considering the old earring thing, back in the 80s, and I stopped her speechless by saying 'Forget that! Now I want a tattoo!' I don't have much interest in pain, though, and magic marker works for a day.
My wife should really do the purple hair though, I mean, you should have seen a friend of ours last week with cool lilac highlights! Yowza!

Purple hair does sound cool.

I've had an earring since 1986. ;-)

Well, it would match the house pretty well. Here's the thing: she is on new-employee-probation until later this month, after that I figure let 'er rip!
You don't have a mullet, do ya gordo? There was a guy at the halloween party last week with a mullet mask: business up front, party in back.
I don't know what my mess of hair, then or now, would be called.
gee gordo, a maple leaf? red and all?

Thanks for the picture Gary...that was some big hair! You remind me of Lyle Lovett's brother (from a different mother). Speaking of Mother's ...loved the picture of yours!

It was remarkably fuzzy then, and still.
Hey, Lyle Lovett is cool and I don't know why Julia dumped him...

Oh my. You seem to have Dan's "Jiffy Pop" hair. There's a reason he shaves his head! ;)

Jiffy pop hair! Remember Kramer on Seinfeld? MMMM, that was star power fuzzy hair.
