Sparschwein
Germans have told me of some sort of tradition on the New Year of passing out piggy banks, sparschwein, for prosperity and good luck. They do something with marzipan piggy candies too. Then in the south you have to have ham and black eyed peas on New Years to start the year out right. I had a nice soy ham and cheese sandwich for lunch, and of course have made dozens of piggies recently, so this must be quite a prosperous year ahead.

I was at a New Year's Eve gathering last night and learned of a new custom to bring prosperity in the new year: put a piece of cabbage in your wallet and supposedly you'll never be without money. You have to put the bit of cabbage in at midnight for it to work. So now I'm going to walk around with cabbage in my wallet for all of 2007.
OK, I think that piggy banks and soy ham are all I need....
The Rock Star's grandmother says you must start each month by saying "white rabbits". I didn't. Nor did I have ham or put cabbage in my wallet. It's going to be an interesting year.
Another year, another birthday over 40...
gary, may you continue to create many wonderful pieces and continue your fantastic blog for 2007.
