blueberry hill

Near my parent's farm is a blueberry farm, and they are ripe NOW, and will be for about 3-4 weeks. Early Sunday I drove an hour east and woke up my mom and said let's pick! I ate a million, of course, but picked a huge bucket in an hour, which was worth 7 bucks, and will result in: one batch of blueberry jam, 2 cakes, and 4 batches of muffins, plus plenty to eat.

I love fresh blueberries! Before my Mom sold it, she owned some property next to a blueberry farmer and wine maker. OMG, that stuff almost turned me into a wino! :)

I used to go berry picking with my grandmother and mother when I was a kid, and I think I would eat more than I picked. Sigh.

I used to gather the wild blueberries up in Michigan when I was a kid, accompanied by good ole Jiggs, the almost collie, who was allowed to eat my mistakes (the not really ripe ones), which he did like a gent and then spat them out when I wasn't looking. Or so I've been told. But they remain my favorite of all the berries of the world I do believe. Although a good goosebery, if you can find it, will also prick up my ears and taste buds.
