a 41st birthday and a long goodbye

(Mr Potsblog, a little kite flying and Sammy pictured last month)
The upside of a birthday is the usual cake and presents. I got a shark kite for my birthday, and we went to the windiest spot I could think of, atop the hill by Cornell's north campus. Not the biggest success. But it has been a sad week, yesterday especially, as Sammy who is nearly 17 is almost gone.

Happy Birthday! Go ahead and take the day off...well, take TODAY off, since I totally missed your actual day.

May your kite fly high and never Jaws-attack anyone!

A big hug to you and Mrs, and a scratch on the head to Sammy.

Kites are the best! We have half a dozen of them between the house and cottage.

I would guess, Gord, that islands can be windy places?

Awwwwwww. That's so sad about Sammy. What a gorgeous cat! Poor thing.

Hope it was a decent birthday anyway!!

You bet, Gary. We're on track to have a 198 Megawatt wind farm built on Wolfe Island right next door.

Yes, Gord, the same winds that blow all that snow over here.
Thanks folks about Sammy, he has had a wonderful, happy and healthy life.

My brother's cat. Malcolm, is also 17. He's in reasonable health, but you'd never mistake him for a carefree kitty of 10. Sometimes, I think it's harder to let pets go than family members.

I'll fly my next kite for Sammy..All Dogs, um Cats Go To Heaven.
Our old 16 year-old guy had a heart attack climbing out of the litter box, but not before he got one last hiss and swipe at our then, new kitten! We took him to the vet and he no sooner said there was nothing to be done, when he died in my husband's arms. We both cried our eyes out. Hope Sammy goes as peacefully too.

Oh yeah! Best wishes for your B-Day! You're just a kid!

Sammy purred at me yesterday and slept between us last night, but he is just about gone now. Thanks though.

Hey, Gary, I really liked your post, although it is terribly sad about Sammy being ill. I take it you're spending all the time you can with him and making him comfortable. Please tell him I think he's a swell cat and a great inspiration. I love my Sammy mug and still use it.

All the best to you on your birthday, and I hope you get your kite off the ground soon.
