FRIDAY DEEP THOUGHTS WITH GARY

Tony Bennett is cool.
Not only is he one of America's favorite crooners, now turned 80, he paints everyday and he is GOOD.

I liked Dean Martin and I'm developing a taste for Frank Sinatra. I distinctly recall walking Toby (our previous dog) one night about 10 years ago and hearing early Sinatra blasting from a neighbour's living room. It was great! Then, I remembered that I was under 30 and Frankie is from Dad's generation. Eeeep!

Listen, Tony is cool, he is alive and working, and darnit, a fine painter. He is OLDER than my dad, but easy to appreciate. My dad is also a fine painter, but not everyone appreciates his singing.

I true renaissance guy. I love that! How did Tony come 'round to being hip again anyway?

Tony has done some work with younger muscians lately--I just got his 80th birthday cd--all duets, with people like The Dixie Chicks etc. Aside from skill, he just seems like a NICE guy, not slick or sleezy, smart too.

the world needs more crooners. There appears to be a new crop of them making the scene this past year. Now I'm not sure if it's just cause I am paying more attention or what. whatever the reason.. sing on!
