is he?!?

Was at the museum yesterday and this fine pot (circa 600 ad or so) caused me stop in my tracks and have another look: "Is this guy playing with his ding-a-ling?!!!".

Off hand and just passing by, of course, I'd sure say it looks like he's having himself a good time. Teehee! And I can just hear some kid saying, "Mommeeee, what's that guy doing?? And her repy, "now just hush, darling, and look the other way, please! We'll talk about it later."

So, how much for a reproduction, potterman? Denis can model.

Ummm...sometimes reality is a little much. Hope you aren't going to change your style, Gary! Happy pigs are so much...nicer.

any chance it is Moche pottery from northern Peru area?

Well yes, Deborah, something like that, I'd have to consult my book.
Frankly, I think it is hilarious, although I'd never make anything like it of course. Although there was that pair of figures I made for Denis 5 years ago...

Not really tasteless, Gary? A different scheme of taste, yeah, but our's hadn't been invented back then.

actually amazing this peice survived so well. (not saying rare-don't know)
given the spanards and their standards and their perchance to destroy what didn't agree with their world view.
and i don't find tasteless. they celebrated many forms of sexuality in ceramic peices. and we celebrate mostly one kind in movies, television, books, advertisement, and so on.
and it seems self-love/self-gratification needs to be an option more and more happily used and accepted. and not just from the disease perspective. and not just cause the average age of kids starting to have sexual intercourse is 13.

those nekkid people you made for me are great. i'll keep them forever. you should make some for celeste...i'm sure she would love them too.

i think you should start selling them. i know they would be a BIG hit!

well, tasteless if I had made it, you see the difference? as part of that culture, of course it made sense, and I know, European culture's assumptions were not known for open minded viewpoints

btw--any naked figures I have made in the past, of course, were cute, and that's all I am admitting to

yeah.. he's lookingh pretty "ho-hum" about it all.. wonder how long he had to pose like that BWAHAHAHA.

hmm well gary.. your gnome exploration with the little finger and such is kinda a modern example of this old classic I think. What society tolerates and places importance on eh? ;)
