1895

Hanging around the community center yesterday, I noticed this picture on the wall. That's our house! Over a hundred years ago! At that time the mill was operating and Fall Creek was dammed, creating a huge pond behind our house. Our back door was steps from the pond, and is now about 75-100 yards from the river, with woods in between. All kinds of junk is lying around at the former pond's bottom, behind our house: old whiskey bottles and the rest. This is looking at the back of our house from across the river, before additions were made to the house, but after it was first built as a one room log cabin. The shed there was the shoemaker's, who owned our house, and it was later moved up to become the 'garage' which is decaying at the side of our house.

That's really cool Gary, oldie photos are so exciting, dragging you out of the present, conjuring up all sorts of imaginings. Fun!

About 15 years ago, I bought some aerial photographs of Kingston that were taken in the 1950's, I love this stuff, too.

Can't imagine the creek being that close, back then.

The records state that it was not painted purple either, yet.

oh WOW!~ I am with all the rest,.. things like this.. showing our history.. a connection with the past is simply amazing. reminds me of a book series out there about Ontario where the author/photographer went back to the SAME location historic pics were taking and took the same view.. then melded them side by side in the book.. very cool. Are the houses across the street in the pic still there now?
