So, the little river behind our house goes from ice covered and 40 feet wide to open and up to the edge of my back yard yesterday (150 feet wide???). THEN it goes rushing downstream and over a series of (what are usually small) Niagara sized waterfalls around the Cornell campus. SPRING! Except for all that snow predicted.

We've had our standard March weather this week: gorgeous, mostly sunny, temps up above freezing, most of the snow gone. Then, right on schedule, comes the annual, post early spring melt snowstorm. 25cm called for in the next 24 hours here.

Very true ... Bridget's sister and her two daughters are driving from here down to Syracuse tomorrow to fly home. Ugh .. I see Watertown has a heavy snowfall warning from 5pm tonight until Sunday morning
totals revised upwards, it seems: 1-2 feet in some places. I have gone to Miami for the weekend, the heck with all this.
You are so lucky to have all this beauty right in your back tard. We have a small river that flows through town in our back yard which ends up in georgian Bay, Lake Huron. It's too shallow to canoe though.
Fall Creek varies, but for most of the summer behind us and up and downriver a ways it is good for some canoeing, kayaking, tubing. Then over at Cornell it turns into a small lake then whoosh! Over a series of falls, down maybe 400 feet to Cayuga Lake.
