Ice out on Fall Creek
It has been rather cold for about 2 months, and a couple of days ago it was well below zero, and may be again next week, but right now: 62 degrees at our house. It has been cold enough that all of Fall Creek behind our house, and some ways up and down river, has been frozen across, very thick. People have gone ice skating on it, and last night in the twilight our dogs in the yard went bananas, because beyond their fence 10 deer were walking down the river on the solid ice. SO, today at about 2 pm, suddenly there was a rush of water and ice blocks, and FREE! An open channel, growing bigger every moment. You should see the 100 ducks behind the house: a bunch of clowns, diving in and flapping and swimming like penguins. I think they suffered, all ice and snow, what could they eat? But now, of course, they are all making plans to increase the size of the flock this spring. Duck love.

In some places, the ice run is a huge event, with people waiting for it anxiously.
the ducks are back there whooping it up, diving, splashing, partying....
not a bit of ice anywhere--all gone just like that
Did you take that pic? It has such VIVID color.
I'm loving this warmer weather, almost as much as the ducks are, I'm sure.
I'm "whooping it up" though not planning to increase the flock any time soon!
I ahhh did not take this picture.....
Everything is melting like crazy here at 13 C! Saw a family flock of ducks, some geese, and tons of birds singing. Some robins nearby too. What a great reprieve from the cold, but it's going to snow this weekend!
