So here's my larger of 3 kilns, just loaded at the start of a firing Sunday, then ramping up, showing orange in the peep hole around half-way through at 1300 degrees of 2200 degrees. The kiln uses about 3 dollars of electricity per firing, surprisingly little considering 12 hours and 2200 degrees, and it has computerized controls like a big microwave oven: firing time, speed, temp, etc is typed in and zip, off it goes.

Very hot! I had H-J come look at these pics before he went to school, since he is the one who made the Wizard. He'd never seen a kiln before, and I didn't know they were so high tech these days!!

Man, that contraption looks complicated. When I did pottery (all of about 4 months in college), I just made the stuff---someone else---a senior ceramics major---did all the firing.
So, all that looks very hard and a bit scary to me!!
I had something to say but the funkenstein left me speechless. Too funny.
I've only done firing in HS art class. I've always wanted to try using a wheel. Very creative.
