Be Joyful!

(The King Drinks, circa 1638)
Greg and I have been discussing old pots, and this painting has some fine pitchers on view. A big one such as the guy in the lower right was absolutely essential in a pub: the beer barrel was cool down in the cellar, and the jug was filled and then poured into mugs. This is a joyful scene, except that cat under the chair.

I dunno.. the cat AND the dog look like they are participating in the (what I believe) the king of fools or 12th night celebration. I'll have to do some digging on this. Some interresting pots hanging about here and there as well

hmm can you live with this colour scheme? ;)

"Brown glaze was generally relegated strictly to forms used at the table, such as mugs, bowls, and porringers. Brown was the most typical color for mugs, while green or yellow appear to be the most common colors used for all other vessel forms"

Oh, indeed, and I have good blues for porrigers too.

gary, it looks like a party you would enjoy...

because of all the pots, of course.

I would like that party, but I would feel bad for the dog and cat and want to take them somewhere calmer and more cozy.

A good ol 12th night celebration to forget one's worries in the mid of winter! always a good time and much.. frivolity =)

The dog I think is enjoying it all.. the cat on the other hand probably thinks it's all beneath their dignity.
