the worrier

More pre-Columbian pots. This dude is even better, a warrior. He is a hollow vessel of some kind
with the top spout and opening in back. The craftsmanship is absolutely perfect, and again, the item is about 2000 plus years old. This very large bottom pot has birds for legs!

more please! This is all very cool stuff. Lots of character. I wonder how much back then was made for sake of "art" or whimsy as opposed to usefulness and necessities of life.

I think these items were very valuable and also part of important rituals

That's my understanding as well, Gary. The stuff that we saw in El Salvador last year was very similar and also gorgeous. Some trade items, but the highly decorative ones were more for ritual.

I'm glad you titled this post "The Worrier", 'cause this dude looks like he's got a lot on his mind!

Gary, I don't think I ever got around to showing you all the pottery stuff that we saw in Salvador. I'll dig them up and post them the Flickr for ya.
