FOLLY

(piggy vase by Gary Rith, garden folly, pilsner glass)

I don't usually make something that is unuseful. BUT, what about something that is useful, but is really just a flight of fancy, like the vase up top there? It is in the tradition of follies, which is a garden building or structure which while not unuseful, is not really for a use either. Just a pretty little bit to gaze at or walk around. So, maybe this wild little vase is a ceramic folly. I am absolutely tickled with this piece.
I was thinking about pilsner glasses when I started it. Pilsner glasses, as seen here, have a little knobby base and a tall tapering body.

You were thinking about pilsner glasses or you were thinking about filling it with pilsner? ;-)

Gord, maybe we can see that this silly little pot has a VERY important function after all....

I liked that vase before when you had the pic up and I still do! I bet something like it with bunnies would sell for easter and holding lilies!

Bunnies - what a terrific idea! This looks like a cool parfait cup to me, even though parfait cups are usually transparent (I think). Anyhow, I would find a creative use for it. :-)

I love garden follies. Yo me they are just lovely, and not just all about folly.

And my step-mother will ONLY drink her beer out of a pilsner glass.

Best garden folly ever is the Casino in Dublin. I had an awful time finding it, but man, was it worth it.
