Kayla checks in: back to pottery
(Kayla and one of her pieces)
Pottersblog friend and clay prodigy Kayla (nickname Virginia) writes to tell us she is potting again (and the world is a better place):
" Gary! been a while, huh? Wow, it really has. So as you know, with the semester ending here in connecticut, my pottery classes ended as well. This was a sad and depressing day for us all. But then came APRIL! And with April came spring! And spring always puts everyone in the mood for pottery! And I'm back to the old habit... taking pottery classes outside of school with a loverly woman, Susan. My friend Genevieve and I are taking the class together, along with about 6 or 7 older women. It's odd being the only youngins there, kinda makes you feel incompetent. But there I was tonight, merrily making a pot in the second class, [they are weekly], and I found myself thinking 'Gary would be proud...'. We made pots/vases out of terra cotta. I found it to be tough and thick. Not my style. I think i'm just going to stick to the regular old cone six clay, heh. We're expirimenting with a psinting style, mejolica or something with a crazy name like that. Last week we made square tiles out of the terra cotta, and used this glaze method on them. I liked the result a lot. [I painted my tile with a goldfish in some seaweed]. Awesome.

Something tells me I don' wanna ask what she considers 'older'. ;-)
I'd like to see that goldfish...
'older' meaning just older than us... not like, OLD people haha.
Yeah! I wanna see, too! Pix, Kayla, pix!!!
thanks for checking in, Kayla, and probably most of the world seems older to you---then suddenly, you're in our 40s, and it is the opposite: everybody seems so young!
Hey - watch it now...50's something, isn't so bad, ya know! Heck, 60's aren't looking so bad either!
Glad to see you back, Kayla! Please, send on the pix.
