Cornell Lab of Ornithology
(Missus Topferwaren Zeitschrift and Mister Topferwaren Zeitschrift)
We were birders yesterday and visited Cornell lab of Ornithology--BIRDS. It is basically a huge research building in a huge woodsy/swampy park. I heard a catbird, but we didn't see a single bird, actually. Muskrat and FROGS. A million glorious frogs.

Martini checks in
Le inspiration

(bowl by Gary Rith)
I love elephants. They're vegetarians too, when you think about it. I lived by the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chiacago for many years and visited frequently (it is free!). The tigers, the arctic fox, the elephants. There was elephant dung everywhere, and warnings to watch for flying dung. Apparently the elephants get moody and grab their poo and fling it at people.

You tell me (as if I was gonna listen to blog commenters, HA!) not to get a tat. We'll see about that! In the meantime, maybe I should get a box of these temporary flying pig tats, and put on a fresh one every day or two?

Thou Art Gallery!
Nancy at Thou Art Gallery has a feature on me, lucky dog! It is a church converted to a gallery space and she is my best pal.....
Its just a jump to the left....
Lynda mentions a petite meme where you write three things about yourself, one is FALSE, commenters try to guess which is false, then write their own 3. YES! Let's do it, OK?
1) I am a high school drop out.
2) I have a tat of a blue 'M' in a red star on my right bicep.
3) I have seen 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' three times. With toast.
Whaddya got?

RENO 911
My next life Ima gonna be a DRUMMER
Sitting around getting depressed with Spike over Joe Biden, had to think of something. That something is a cup of tea, a triple peanut butter sandwich and a GODSMACK DRUM DUEL.
I am reminded of Phil Lesh of the Dead saying in midconcert once that "Mickey wants everyone to know, drummers don't make house calls" and of course in the movie Spinal Tap, there was a certain doom attached to being a drummer. A fatal glamour.
If you love Godsmack like me, you will agree that the only thing better than the usual performance might be when lead singer Sully Erna straps on a drum kit and a rack of bongos AND has a drummers duel with their drummer.........
OK, I'm ready to do the dishes now.

a political moment with Spike

Spike asked me to type this before he fell asleep:
"The thing you like about Obama is that he is exciting. Some people say Joe Biden might be his running mate, a choice I find as interesting as old dishwater. Why do the dems do these things? I suppose there is always the hope that the veep will be the LBJ to the winning Kennedy, but it strikes me that Obama and Biden would be more like Gore and that dinkus from Connecticut in 2000."
petite pottery field trip
Ellen and Susan, two of my pottery students, drove with me an hour north Wednesday to buys supplies from a ceramic supplier in Syracuse, have a BBQ lunch and go to the Everson Art Museum, which is stuffed full of pots. Inside and out, as you can see!
Dinosaur BBQ
So as I say, me and two of my pals and students from Cornell hit the road Wednesday. A petite pottery field trip with Susan and Ellen. Dinosaur BBQ might be the most famous restaurant north of NY city. Just happened to be between museum and pottery supply place.
Sure, it is a rib joint, but they work hard to make a vegetarian happy too. Although the clientele seems as ordinary as anybody at lunchtime midweek, it is a biker bbq joint, and all the chefs and wait staff are of that variety (you know, tats, leather, chains, whatever), it would appear, and they are the nicest people, but they look like they could seriously kick the sh!t out of anybody too.
SUMMERTIME THING
Although it is August and will be sunny and mid-80s later today, this morning and yesterday monring were both in the 40s--it is cold!!!! Getting up early with the dogs, it is also dark. The freshmen have all arrived at Cornell, upperclassmen tumbling in too, and suddenly it looks like FALL. Dangit.

GOING TO HELL ALL THE WAY: muffin challenge, part 3
(spectacular peanut butter and jam muffins by Gary Rith)
I just ate 3 bean burritos and a peanut butter and jam muffin for dinner. With
B!tch red wine. And you should see the monster platter of food I had for lunch at the BBQ biker bar. What-a-day.
OK, the muffins? Exactly what I hoped for. I filled the tins, as you see, with some batter, then scooped in a spoonful of peanut then a spoonful of jam in each one. The recipe below says 1/3 cup batter first, but I probably put in too much in each, but it did not matter. I also didn't measure the pb or j, just spooned it into each muffin.
The end result is wicked tasty: whole wheat muffins have a solid body, and here in the middle? Perfectly intact scoops of pb and j.
We have a winner. Thanks Lynda for the suggestion!
