MONA JUMPS THE SHARK and Superpotter strikes again
I did not know until this week that I could make a nice shark, but here goes--Mona's special order, I am sending her the extra toothy one as soon as it finishes cooling here. I am feeling most saint-like, as I ship this out today....
This is a great mug! I love the buck teeth! You should do them for dentists! Think of all the cool slogans you could come up with......."My bite is worse than my bill!!???" "Let me straighten you out!"....endless..
PERFECT! I couldn't have asked for anything better! You could call this your 'landshark' series! ("flowers, ma'am...uh...candygram....")
Wouldn't car dealers need leeches on their mugs? I will not guess what lawyers would have, as one sleeps in my bed every night, and I'd like it to continue that way....
Mona, does your husband know about you sleeping with this lawyer???? Jumping the shark ya'll refers to Fonzie, in the late years of 'Happy Days' jumping over a shark on waterskis, in his leather jacket. I remember prior to that, when I was around in 4th grade, Fonzie jumped a bunch of cars in a parking loton his motorcycle--but it took two seasons to get to the end of that cliff hanger. Anyway, jumping the shark means that something has gone on too long, too far, a desperate attempt for attention or something.. Who the heck is Ellen?????????????? A cousin of mine???????? Please Ellen, check in somehow, tell us a little about yourself!!!!!!!!
Cough cough cough.. sick I am.. cough cough cough.. very nice things Gary.. cough cough cough.. Me like the sharks!.. cough cough.. argh!!!..
Actually Gary wasn't it evil Kenevil who jumped a tank of sharks on live tv.. I swear I watched that.. Fonzie jumped a series of cars to impress Pinky Tuscadero and tha was a season finale wasn't it? Pinky was played by Roz Kelly (zzz) but Pinky's sister was Suzi Quatro! (thumbs up!)
Fonzie jumped a shark while water skiing on a late episode of HD, and it was kind of the point where it was evident the end of HD was near...hence, 'jumping the shark'. No, I am not a cousin or anything. Just a potter who googled potter, and found your blog a few months back. I have checked in with delight to find what your latest work has been. I love the whimsy, and playfulness of your work. I am just returning to clay after quite a few years of doing other things...like raising kids, cleaning up after kids, teaching kids... If I ever do anything worth looking at, I will share MY blog.... In the meantime, you will just have to think of me as a faceless admirer of your art.
Gorthos: Evil Keneval did all those things, yes, including many cars and also the Grand Canyon ona rocket car, I think. BUT, it was like the HD writers had no imagination, because shortly after Evil K. did these things, they wrote them into the script for Fonzie, BUT, YES, I clearly remember Fonzie on water skis, in his jacket, jumping the shark. Other meanings could include--this is ridiculous, the joke has gotten old, it is time to retire, you have pushed the envelope, pushed it again but now it is past time to retire. I suspect our new friend Ellen lives in California, and I hope you will show more of youself as times goes by, THANKS for coming over and saying hello!
As my old pal Gordo says:
"You want plain, old pots or plates? Go see the other guys. You want whimsy and creativity? Gary's the man!"

my pots are lead-free, microwaveable and dishwasher safe, just don't drop them!
Mary Lee got her pots and says: "Love 'em both......I'm also much relieved to find that both pieces are useable in any of the traditional manners, micro, dishwasher, etc., something I'd wondered about.
I'm truly delighted ....the glaze is so very much nicer in person. Photos do not do it justice, alas! "
Gary Rith is a full-time studio potter and also an instructor of pottery at Cornell University's Pot Shop.
Gary started learning pottery in 1983. In 1985 he served as an apprentice to Dean White of Deansboro, NY and earned a bachelor's degree in art from Bennington College in 1987. He has been a full-time sculptor and potter since 1997. Gary started his business in New Hamspshire, where he was selected as a member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen in 2004 and in 2005 was named one of New Hampshire's Emerging Ceramics Artists. He moved to the Ithaca, NY area in 2006, near where he grew up, and is happily making pots and sculpture in a purple house on Fall Creek. Gary likes to laugh, and his first goal is to have fun making pots.

From Quebec, Mags gets excited:
GUESS WHAT? My pots arrived! Oh my GOD! They are beautiful and you are soooooooooo sweet
another happy pig lover wrote:
Thank you so much for the prompt delivery...... I LOVE it!!! This day has been very stressful, and your package certainly brightened it. :-) (Sometimes all ya need is a couple of pigs!)
These will be favorites.
Thanks again, M.P.
When Mona opened up her box of pots she said:
I went all gooshy 'cause they're absolutely amazing! The pigs are gosh-darned cute, and the glaze-work is gorgeous! I can't keep my hands off them! Seriously! I keep finding excuses to walk by them .....
Lucia has something to say:
Gary -
You're awesome.
The vase is beautiful!! It's even more lovely than it looked in the photo. And the surprise, I laughed so loud at its cuteness that a co-worker came in and asked what was so funny. Thank you so much! I felt just like it was Christmas here in the office this morning, and I'm smiling. Wooooohooo!!! You're excellent.

E.S. sez:
The package made it in excellent condition! I absolutely loved them. I almost couldn't part with the pig mug, but I gave it to my coworker for her birthday who is in love with pigs.
and more happy customers say:
"Gary, my pots arrived! They're beautiful just as I expected
I just wanted to thank you ever so much...adorable." Maggie

Evel Kneivel jumped the Snake River Canyon, not the Grand Canyon
I'd like to see someone jump either canyon nowadays with a rocket car. People are wusses anymore.
