Lesson two, animals in art

OK, so earlier in the week we discussed animals on pre-Columbian pottery. You could have a plain mug, or you could have a mug with a dog on it, just like a still life is a hundred times more fun when it is dogs playing poker.

I love it, but you wouldn't believe the derision that I would suffer if I veer dared to bring one home. LOL

Much as I love your dogs and pigs and hippoes, I would have to say that this dog painting ranks right up there with Velvet Elvis's in my book. But who am I?

I wonder what anthropologists in our long future would derive about our society from this painting?

Not sure I understand where you're coming from there, Mags, as I really like this painting. The man was skilled, the picture cute. Is it just a guy thing?
;^)

That's about as guy as Larry, Curly and Moe.

Here's what don't care for when it comes to animals and art: those calendars and greeting cards where REAL animals are dressed in clothing and forced into unnatural poses to replicate human behavior. You know, like "Doctor Dachsund" with a lab coat and a stethascope over his neck.

The dogs playing poker thing doesn't bother me because it looks like ART, not some actual poor creature forced to tolerate stuff that pains him.

But maybe it is a man VS woman thing...although I think many women probably think those calendars and cards are cute...Oy vey. In the minority again...

IT IS REAL art. That painter was skilled. Truly, though, some people don't think I am a serious potter because I put a pig on a mug. If I take the pig off, OK I am a serious potter. Maybe I am not a serious person!!??!
Glad you could visit Susan, travel safely.
