my sock monkey visits Quebec the first time

As we were saying below, Stanstead, QC and Derby Line, VT share a library (you see the LINE going across the floor ofthe library!), opera house, streets, people's houses and yards and apartments can be in two different countries. Pretty friendly and wonderful, and should be kept that way.

I used to love that quality about growing up so close to the Quebec line. My brother and I used to ride our bikes back and forth over the border in the summer, for lack of anything better to do. And when I was 18 I went to a bar half in the US and half in Canada called the "Halfway House" and it had a line on the floor. Loved it.

The fact that towns like this exist is testament to the history of cooperation between our countries. Well, since 1814, anyway ...

I would be greatly saddened to see anything happen to jeopardize that, especially when there has never been an issue.

Susan, that is even cooler than a public library. I don't see Canada getting all worried about it, and up till 2001 the US was CLOSING border stations (I remember that New Hampshire was closing its only crossing, HA! that changed after 9/11). What if all this energy and money went into good jobs and HEALTHCARE, which are REAL threats to the average American's wellbeing, not the shadowy terrorist.
