a sad moment

Our little green car, nearly 14, had quite a few problems, although still driveable. The best option was donation to the Kidney Federation. It has been through about 7 (!!!) collisions of one kind or another, and almost 200 thousand miles, but will make the next owner happy and safe too.
We go from a two car family ( I never leave the house, so what do I need a car for?) to a single car family, in a place with superior bus service everywhere. CHEAPER!

Oh, my! Even if you don't drive it, just by virtue of its having been 'in the family' so long makes for a wrenching goodbye. My little darling, a 1990 Geo Storm, that sporty little pride and joy, still sits in my carport and I get a son to go out and fire her up now and then, but it's been months since I decided I wanted no part of becoming one of those 'elders' who go driving and have a really heart-wrenching accident. It's there, though, runs like a Swiss watch, so anyone wishing to borrow, c'mon by!

One car family - a great move if you can work it. Less footprint dude. Living where the bus system is 'superior' is awesome. I loved that about Seattle - you could go anywhere anytime and easily. Right on Gary!

Is that a Topaz, Gary? 14 years is amazing, I must say.

We're a one-car family, because our schedules work together. Bus service in Kingston is terrible. I checked schedules last year and even if we didn't drop the boys at the grandparents in the morning, we'd be looking at an hour to get to work. It takes 20 minutes in the van, with stops, and winds up being cheaper than the bus.

Kinda looks like Jim's Explorer being towed yesterday...found out it was the 'fly wheel'. Will cost about $1000 smackeraroos to fix it...hummm. It's a 1995, so we're thinking.

Broke my heart when I had to trade the little blue Ford in after 13 years loyal service. I don't like the 'new' silver one anywhere near as much.

But... going from two cars to one has to be a sound move, especially in a place where public services are good. And you get to meet all sorts of interesting people!

It is a Geo Prizm and has done well. The black suv loaded in the middle there had a crunched front window and roof--somebody had a terrible accident!!! So, you know, that is what is REALLY sad.

Oh, and, BTW, what a really great idea -- to donate it to the Kidney folks, where it will benefit others.

What a nice idea to donate it. But still, like you say, sad to see her go. It's hard not to get attached to one's car...
