Mary Lee and her haiku win a prize!

Our friend and frequent visitor and commentor is, of course, an accomplished poet. Her haiku placed second in a recent international competition.

spring dusk -
the earth's fragrance
after the plow

Thanks Mary Lee!

Thanks, guys, very much! I'm at a loss for words here, so I won't take up any more space. A first! Me, struck dumb.

Speaking as the son of an avid gardener, I can cetainly identify with your haiku, Mary Lou! Congratulations.

Thanks Gordo. It's nice to know someone else thinks that freshly dug earth is about the nicest smell in the world! Another friend commented to me that his DAd said he could pour cream on it and eat it for breakfast.

Eeek! Pops wouldn't go that far, but I can still vividly smell the spring soil after a tilling even though I haven't been around when Dad did it for almost 20 years ... :-D

I think I'll go help him next year.

Now that's what I call a good haiku, Mary Lee -- congratulations!

Congrats Mary Lee - beautiful haiku, transported me to feilds of the mind, snatches of real feilds and film scene ones, and everything draped in a dusky pink veil. Lovely.

My heartfelt thanks to one and all and especially to you John, and you, too, dear Lou! I'm so glad everyone likes it. And special thanks to host Gary, who posted it.
