The missus grabbed the camera, and there I am. Of course, now they're all thumping each other which is their morning habit.
So, perfect weather, good health, good ideas and fun work and healthy cats and dogs, what could go wrong????????? A broken kiln. It sputtered last week and yesterday DIED. Sigh. I have some spare parts for this very reason (bought extra parts last time it broke down) and will tear it open and do surgery later this am. I have lost a day.
I don't have alot of confidence in doing electrical repairs, but kilns are meant to be repaired, and who else is around to do it? With any luck, once I get the thing apart, it will be something simple. I can also have its onboard computer run a self-diagnostic test. Next photos will show me with my pliers and a bunch of wires all over the place.

that's a bummer! good luck fixing it. like kate & jim instructed, careful. but then again, can your hair get any curlier?

Yeah, that might give you a real jolt. But those pics of you and Spike and Penny are just too wonderful. I'm really partial to the first one of just you and Spike, both of your smiling so happily!

It is a 220 (or is it 240?) Gord, a huge receptacle and power cord.
WELL, up early, and tore it apart and fixed now. Not as bad as it could have been, and I had spare parts read to go! 'be prepared' and 'unplug the kiln', the potter's mottos.

Excellent! The same voltage (and probably connector) as your oven.
Right, same as an oven. The studio was set up by the last owner to be a sperate studio apt., and the kitchen area is where the kiln is, plugged in where the oven would be--the power right there waiting for a big hot oven of some kind. (diff. plug outlet though, they had to be switched)
my word, the size of Spike? I'm so used to looking at my tiny little balls of fluff (even now that they're that little bit bigger) - I can't ever imagine them being that big! Unky Spike is a whopper!
Spike is absolutely huge. Same size or bigger than Penny the dog.
Hey, the kiln is a 240. Wonder what all this means, 220, 240? I dunno.
I'm surprised it's a 240...I've never heard of that! All our bigger ones are 220, and the regular outlets are 110. I asked Jim and he said he never heard of it either, but then he's not an electrician...lol!
