Petey: 1987-2006

Our little dog Petey died a year ago. He was maybe half beagle, half corgi. Incredible good health, affection, loyalty and toughness until his last day. We found him living on the Chicago streets on a hot day, and his last month found him helping us move one last time to a new house. Loved him so much, and miss him too. Penny gets a lot of press around here lately, and she is so much like him. Well, she isn't a tough little Chicago dog, but what can you say about the love of a good dog or cat? I miss him so, but man, what a dog and what a life.

What a gorgeous dog Gary, lovely knowing eyes. It's lovely you rescued him as well, they really reward you back ten-fold don't they? Leave a big hole when they go too. Thanks for sharing that :)

Our first dog, Toby, was a pound puppy. She had her quirks, but I really think they're the best type of dog going. They're so thankful and earnest.

We actually met him on the street, he was just hanging around, bloody scratches and a little thin but healthy otherwise. He was leary of my approach at first, but then let me pet him, and boy, when the collar went on, he was SO EXCITED, because it must have meant he had a family.

Street dogs can make the best pets. They seem so thankful to be in a home. What a great looking dog.

Aw, Petey looks like he was good friend, Gary.

We got our lab from a lady who raised show dogs. Then we got our other two (half German Shepard and half Greyhound) from a yard sale...lol! I guess I tarried too long at the fence, gazing at them. The owners were moving and had to find new parents for them. I guess it was meant to be.

Thanks for sharing those photos, they're wonderful.

That IS a really long life for a dog and you got to share it with him! Pets really enrich our lives.

was it Mark Twain who said 'the more people I meet the more I like my dog'?

Dunno but that sounds good to me and it is true to a certain extent!
