FUNK AND FLARE: an article about ME!

My pal and neighbor Melissa Garrett runs an online parenting magazine and website called 'Root and Sprout'. I am a featured article! Melissa writes:
Pottery by Gary Rith

submitted by Lis Garrett

Even if he were not a friend and neighbor, I’d still be convinced Gary Rith is one of the most talented potters out there, producing a collection of fun, eclectic, and totally usable pieces.

Not one for the mundane, Gary’s pottery sports a hefty dose of funk and flare. Although he specializes in adorning in his pieces with clay critters, he occasionally produces a bit of flora and fauna, as well, which are my personal favorite. How could I then resist this beautiful berry bowl?

Also enclosed in a recent shipment was this green froggy dish, in which I have placed my hydroponically-grown basil. It looks perfect sitting on my kitchen counter, with the frog appearing right at home amongst his water pond and basil roots. Each time I snip a few fresh basil leaves, I smile at this whimsical touch to what could have been just another dish.

In essence, Gary has a talent for turning the ordinary into the extraordinary. And can’t we all appreciate that?

Gary’s pottery is lead-free and safe to use in the microwave and dishwasher. “Just don’t drop it,” he says. Keep up-to-date with what Gary is doing by visiting Potter’s Blog.

When Lis Garrett has a bit of spare change, she likes to spend it on nice things. Lis is the senior editor and a contributing writer for Root & Sprout.

Excellent article is right. All very true too. I'm still smiling at my mugs every time I use them, and frankly, every time I see them in the press :)
